Sarah Darby based in the Cotswolds is a contemporary figurative oil painter working from life.
‘My paintings are about honest observation, whilst exploring the subtle tonal relationships of colour and light, I endeavour to interpret what I see as true to nature in a painterly yet refined way. From my travels I have various ‘props’ that I like to choose from which hold some form of significance to me. I find reflections on silver and glass particularly enjoyable to paint. In the initial stages, I take a lot of time setting up a still life and will often spend a couple of hours arranging and rearranging until the composition feels right. I also love painting en plein air—outside in all seasons and weathers. The light on the landscape inspires me, it’s a challenge to capture the scene before it changes’. Sarah has exhibited at The Minster Gallery in Winchester, Oxford Art Society, Sarah Wiseman Gallery and the Ashmolean Café, WestOxArts Gallery Bampton and Ginger Jar, Villefranche France.
