Most of my work revolves around Watercolour painting but increasingly I am
experimenting in including mixed media, collage and lettering within the painting.
Primarily I paint trees or sea scenes – always calm & peaceful – no rough seas for me! Despite not living near the sea, I am drawn to it and find peace & pleasure being close to the water and the beach. Equally trees, with their changing shades, shapes and shadows, smooth trunks or gnarled roots and branches are a real joy.

All my life I have been creative in one way of another but it is only in very recent years that I have started to use watercolour. I accept that it is not always an easy medium to work with, but there is a real sense of achievement when you feel you have it ‘right’. To my mind painting is a form of meditation in that I don’t think about anything else whilst I am working. At one time I used to do a lot of raku fired ceramics and found the same sense of total involvement and concentration.

Recently I took part in a Calligraphy weekend workshop. Again this is something that I was involved with many years ago - in ‘a previous life’. The workshop awoke my interest in lettering again and I have just finished two pieces of work incorporating words with watercolour. It has been a challenge, approaching and working on a theme in a different way.

It’s possible that I am content to work in a certain way for a period of time but that
sometimes I need go off on a slightly different path – to experiment and to see where that leads me. Whatever the outcome, being creative is a very important part of my life.
