Tracey Lee

Picture

Although I originally trained in 3D design in the late 80s/early 90s, I never entered the field, choosing to become an EFL teacher instead, working both abroad and in the UK.
However, when I moved to Central America in 2009, unable to find paid teaching work, a good friend taught me the art of wire work and I took to it like a duck to water. We immediately began working together, creating unique pieces of jewellery which we successfully sold in Nicaragua for a number of years. Returning to the UK in 2013, we continued this venture focussing on intricate wire work, but also teaching ourselves how to use different techniques and work with different materials. Unfortunately, due to chronic health conditions and disability, I soon had to give up many things, including making, for some years.
You can imagine how it filled my heart with joy when I was finally well enough to get back to a little making a couple of years ago. Since continuing this journey, I have tried to work, as much as possible, with materials which are recycled, for example, sterling silver. I also attempt to upcycle other materials wherever possible, giving them a new lease of life, including electrical wire, coins, artillery and ammunition, cutlery, old jewellery and textiles.
