Teena Ackary
I work from my small garden studio in the Wiltshire countryside which I happily share with my animals. I started my journey with clay as an art college student in my late teens before being drawn into the world of commerce and motherhood. Having successfully opened and run a business in the electronics sector, I also studied Chinese medicine during my middle years, as a method to address some lifestyle issues, becoming a qualified practitioner of Zen Shiatsu in 2011.
The deep dive into Chinese medicine and five elements theory led me full circle back to my love of the earth and clay and nature which now heavily influences my ceramic art. I work on the wheel and also hand build using slabs, but my main love is for the old fashioned method of coiling. The slow process is almost a meditation in itself, allowing the thoughts to flow freely as the body of the vessel takes on its shape in an almost subconscious, evolutionary way.
