I’m fascinated by the visual world, especially colour and texture. I see beauty in the simplest and weirdest things and want to capture those moments of intense awe. I’ve created things for as long as I can remember, it is part of who I am.
Observing that awe in the work of others, the moments they chose to capture and how they went about it, led to a degree in History of Art. My first essay was about Klimt, I have come to appreciate many artists since but Klimt’s work still appeals directly to my soul. I love textiles; fashion designers and icons such as Vivienne Westwood, Schiaparelli, Madeleine Vionnet, Callot Soeurs, and Iris Apfel bring me joy. I’m also inspired by the quieter voices of women throughout history creating textiles or salvaging and reusing textiles for both functional and creative purposes. Telling their stories, stitch by stitch. Collecting textiles is a passion, mostly used, vintage lace and linens, threads, braids, ribbons, beads, and trinkets to stitch into my work. The endless adaptability of the medium prompts new and varied avenues of exploration from patchwork to wall hangings, accessories to dolls.
