As a writer of fiction I’ve published widely, mainly fiction for adults and children. Art and artists are important in several of my books, in particular my latest novel for adults, The One True Thing, which features Artweeks. I have an interest in stone-carving and lettering, as seen in Set in Stone as well as in the new novel. With my picture books and stories for young readers I have collaborated with illustrators including Pam Smy and Catherine Raynor. A non-fiction title This Book is Cruelty Free: Animals and Us, for teenagers and adults, looks at our daily choices and their effects on animals and the environment. I have tutored many times for the Arvon Foundation and elsewhere, leading workshops for a range of ages and experience. With author friends Adele Geras and Celia Rees I host the weekly literary blog, Writers Review. I am a keen amateur photographer with an interest in nature, wildlife and landscape.
