Sculptures in Wood and wood turned items.

I spent over 40 years living and working in Cornwall, teaching and lecturing in Art & Design and Photography before changing direction and concentrating on Sculpture. I now live in Oxfordshire working with wood, mainly producing hollowed sculptural forms which I create using a lathe, often combined with carving using a variety of hand tools . My work seeks to explore the natural patterns, shapes and textures found in the wood. I rarely sketch out ideas in advance preferring to develop forms inspired by what I uncover during the process of turning. Some more complex forms require significant planning to enable the production of the final piece. I think my approach can best be described as ‘form over function’.
