Judith Towle Jones
I am a Welsh artist now based in Oxfordshire. I spent my childhood in a small village to the south edge of Llangynidr Moors. In addition to the high altitude there was little tree cover in the village, a legacy of the area’s industrial past, which meant conditions could be bleak, especially in winter.
I think it is these early experiences of extreme weather at high altitude which have led to my current fascination with changing conditions and how they sculpt and mould the landscape.
My village was sandwiched between the Welsh Coalfield to the south and the beauty and splendour of the Brecon Beacons National Park to the north. The marked contrast between these two environments held a fascination for me from an early age and I believe they played an important part in forging my passion for painting and my interest in landscapes in particular.
I exhibit at the Queen St Gallery, Neath, South Wales. In February this year I won 3rd place in their Open 24 Art Exhibition with an oil painting of Beer Beach, Devon.
