Judith Scott
I trained at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford and Suffolk College, as well as completing an MA in Modern History at St. Hugh’s College, Oxford. I lived in Suffolk for forty years, bringing up a family and working as a teacher, selling work on commission. In 2017, I achieved a Distinction in Oxford University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural History and this prompted me to leave teaching and focus more fully on art and architecture. Shortly afterwards, I moved to the west of Oxford, where I have a small studio.
I find inspiration in the shape and form of the beautiful world around me, whether natural or man-made. My preferred medium is oil, whether portraits or landscapes, but I also love working with inks to produce fine, detailed drawings. Covid lockdown gave me the opportunity to explore Oxford; this fed into my interest in buildings and I produced 50 drawings and paintings of the quiet city, which I exhibited during Oxfordshire Arts Week. I also enjoy working with soft metals and stone to create interesting bas-relief work; I enjoy the physical nature of these materials and working to combine them into something unique and beautiful. I have only submitted work for exhibition in recent years. I had two pieces selected for the Annual Ipswich Art Society Exhibition and one piece for the last exhibition held at the Jam Factory.
