I work in watercolour or more recently gouache. I have adopted gouache for a series of paintings inspired by pre-war railway posters which were originally created in that medium. Most of these paintings are landscapes and street-scenes created from my photographs of south Oxfordshire.
As well as using gouache, I have added a title strip to my paintings that reflect those of the original posters. I have used Sans Gill as the font as that style was created for London Underground’ posters from 1928 onwards to add a further element of realism. I have also created a series of aircraft paintings, in the same style, as this is the year of the VE Day commemorations. This style of painting reflects my enjoyment of architectural subjects, detail and realism and my passion for drawing. Clearly, I’ve been influenced by the original artists but also current artists who specialize in this type of work such as Alan Tyers and Kevin Williamson. I’ve greatly enjoyed producing artwork on this theme and I’m pleased to say so have several others who have bought my paintings. Email: [email protected] |
