I became a Potter in Oxfordshire and Devon following the rich, technical training of the Harrow Studio Pottery Course. Its ethos still underpins my work. Later training in art therapy led to NHS therapeutic work. Subsequent teaching and PhD research at Goldsmiths examined therapist’s art practice.
I make stoneware and porcelain for use. I experiment with raw materials from the natural landscape incorporating into my work sands, clays and ashes, and imprints taken from plants, seeds and trees. Effects of high temperature firing become visible through the extreme processes and slow physical and labour intensive technologies. Surfaces and forms transmit to the user the irregular and intimate quality of things made completely by hand. I have exhibited widely. Email: [email protected] Website: www.jackymahony.com |
