I studied under Jo Dixon at Sunningwell School of Art in Oxfordshire and later under Jenny O’Leary. Working first in batik on cotton and silk, I now work with papers in mixed media. I previously read History and the History of Art and my inspiration partly comes from the many artists I taught and from a wide variety of exhibitions visited.
I constantly look for ways to explore reality, whether of nature, architecture or everyday objects. I want to push the boundaries of representation to reveal what is of particular interest. This can result in a response to a detail or to the whole, to the form, the design or to the line. The contemporary abstract forms in my work reflect this objective with colour always being an integral part of the work. I design using wax and a variety of papers including tissue and Japanese Washi papers and inks to produce framed works and a wide range of greeting cards.
