Frances Buckel

Picture
Fran loves to be outside and is a keen birdwatcher, her observations are reflected in  her work as she is happiest painting birds, animals and the wider countryside. Although she prefers to work from life and has spent many hours at Slimbridge Wetland Centre sketching birds she does take photos particularly of birds for studio work.
Fran was originally trained as a beauty therapist and worked for Yardley of London in their Public Relations department doing photographic make-up amongst other promotional activities. However a long spell in various parts of Southern Africa changed her career path and after studying for a master’s degree in Environmental Management she become more environmentally based. She has recently purchased some new eco bio-based acrylic paints to try with good results.
Fran has taken part in many art workshops, study days and short courses. During the pandemic she took  part in a number of online classes  with the Royal Drawing School, learning to make paint, drawing and printing and learning to see differently. Her  studies inspired her to try to be more experimental and she has recently joined an abstract group looking at different ways to portray nature.
