Candy James BA (Hons) Fine Art & History of Art is a contemporary abstract artist specialising in environmental art. Her work delves into psychological narratives relating to place identity, inner and external landscapes. Candy’s captivating work reflects her exploration of environmental themes. Her artistic journey intertwines nature, psychology, and identity, creating thought provoking visual narratives that resonate with viewers. I create instinct-led paintings that respond to landscape, still life and figure work. Working primarily in oils, acrylics or mixed media including metal leaf and diamond dust, I develop semi-abstract compositions that balance material texture with expressive mark-making. Informed by a Fine Art degree my practice investigates perception, memory, and atmosphere. “My distinctive personal style of abstract painting pays homage to the beauty of the Cotswold escarpment. I collect natural earth pigments from the landscape from which I make my own paints for my current series of work, ‘Cotswold Dream’. I often add other mixed media such as gold or silver leaf and diamond dust to the finished artwork. Passionate about the environment I am able to witness first-hand how important it is to preserve and protect it from over development and other human interference. My practice considers not only how our relationship with the natural environment is essential for our mental and physical well-being as humans but also for the survival of animal, insect and plant life." My work has been selected for the prestigious Millfield Open Show 2022 and Millfield Sustainable Art Open 2024, Atkinson Gallery, is featured in 101 Contemporary Artists and more... and is held in private collections both in the UK and internationally. Large scale work is also available by commission. Email: [email protected] |
