A fast-paced exhibition, changing throughout the month, with work available to take away immediately by some of Oxfordshire's finest printmakers and artists working with paper.
PAINT, POT, PRINT
26th September - 18th October 2015
This exhibition brings together three exciting artists that work in very different media yet resonate as a whole.
The essence of Felicity Cormack's woodcuts are her use of colour. She has chosen wood cuts as her choice of print medium because relief work allows for experimentation both in the cutting and in the layering up of colour. Katharine Miller’s paintings embrace the landscape and still life to form a composition that hovers between painting and collage. This combination of nature and still life mirrors that of Liz Teall’s ceramic works. Teall’s love of plants manifests itself in the subject matter and colour combinations on these highly individual works, often using her recognizable leaf motifs.
The artists exhibiting are:- Felicity Cormack, Katharine Miller and Liz Teall

DIFFERENT BODIES - JILL COOPER, PAT ELMORE, AUDREY HOBLEY, JOAN LYONS, RONA, JILL TWEED
4 - 26 JULY 2015
4 - 26 JULY 2015
In July we were pleased to host a mixed exhibition celebrating the body. Different bodies ... female, male, human, animal, clothed, nude, elegant, striking, surprising. A range of different bodies, by different artists, in media including stone, pastel, paint, pencil and fabric.
JILL COOPER creates her wonderfully humorous pictures from fine fabrics, with each piece held in place using a small stitch of invisible thread. Jill, who studied textile design at college, describes her work as painting with fabrics. She will also be showing some lively sculptures. PAT ELMORE draws on her experience as a mother of six children to produce sculptures based on the human form. She enjoys sourcing unusual stone and works and tutors from her home in Oxfordshire. Pat is a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and has held numerous one man shows in the UK and abroad. AUDREY HOBLEY trained at Birmingham College of Arts and Crafts and Warwick University, specialising in textiles. She has taught in various schools including Wroxall Abbey, Warwick where she was Head of Art. Since retiring Audrey has run art groups and is enjoying finding her own style, often attending WOA life classes.
JOAN LYONS brings her own inimitable style to her figures, faces and flower paintings. For this exhibition she has concentrated on bodies, clothed and unclothed. Her framed paintings are in acrylic and pastel, with a browser of pastel sketches. Joan’s works have been exhibited and won awards at major exhibitions. After painting a series celebrating the beauty of older women RONA realised that, right under her nose, she had a teenage girl bursting with the beauty of youth. From the way they are painted, the girls are exposed, with nothing to hide behind. Seventeen - the beginning of a feeling that everything's about to change. JILL TWEED's commissions include a portrait sculpture of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother for her 80th birthday; a bronze of Bob Champion and Aldiniti that was given to Prince Charles; and 11 large public sculptures, the most prestigious commemorating the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings. We are delighted that for 'Different Bodies' Jill is showing some of her animal work.
DOUBLE VISION - BRIEN O'ROURKE AND NORIKO MACFARLANE 6 - 28 June 2015
A fine tulip felled by a spring gale; a small green bottle made into a temporary home on a dark stormy day. Then the sun shone and filled the kitchen with emerald spots of light and so began the main core of this exhibition - a new genre for the painter and a new modus operandi. Potter Noriko Macfarlane, whose work ranges from practical domestic ware such as oven dishes, platters, salt pots and mugs to sculptural, sometimes humorous creations including animals and birds, joined Brien O'Rourke for this stunning show.

TALKING THREADS: 4 - 26 April 2015
An exhibition of new work including hand and machine embroidery and mixed media, showing the diverse approaches of eight artists. Some of the work is richly coloured and stitched; some more sombre and conceptual. Techniques include drawing, painting, printing and collage with hand and machine embroidery. The artists meet once a month at the Oxford Textile Workshop, where they work together and exchange ideas. See how the Opening Reception went on our blog!

GILL BANKS explores mark making and collage with both 2D and 3D work, being inspired by the coast where she enjoys walking and beachcombing. MARGARET CHARLTON'S recent work involves selecting figures from newspaper photographs and drawing only their clothes. She has made a sample book of related fabrics. MAIR EDWARDS has been inspired by an exploration of personal memories. Materials and process are specifically chosen for each piece of work to create unframed pieces with a limited colour palette.
JANE TREAVIS' recent work is inspired by the patterns and colours of ceramic tiles. She uses machine and hand embroidery plus different media to create her 2D pieces. POLLY WOOLSTONE is inspired by the textures of worn surfaces. She uses mark making, printing, rubbings and collages along with hand and machine embroidery, paper and fabric.
MAUREEN ERGENELI'S work is inspired by different locations, including India and South Africa. Her work is brightly coloured and densely hand stitched on rich fabrics. TICIA LEVER'S work is diverse, influenced by the concept of fragility and her passion for colour and texture. She often uses birds as her inspiration and includes opulent materials and detailed stitching in her work. JANE O'BRIEN is inspired by historical textiles and the narratives revealed. Her pieces are layered using small hand stitches and with embellishments that add luxury or utility.

SECRETS DISCLOSED: 7 February - 1 March 2015
'Secrets Disclosed' featured photographer Barrie Dale and ceramicist Crabby Taylor, both of whom reveal a connectedness to nature. Barrie photographs mainly small commonplace plants, many usually regarded as weeds, but his close attention uncovers a surprising richness and abundant opportunities for abstraction. Crabby employs techniques thousands of years old, dating back to man’s first vessels. Her soft, muted colour palette is reminiscent of nature's own colours and, unlike modern mass-produced items, the hand of the maker is always evident.
