My name is Petra Richards and I live in the Oxfordshire countryside with my husband, our two boys, and our black lab, Rocco. I have been a professional artist since 2011. I am originally from the Czech Republic but moved to the UK in 2007 after I graduated from Law and Finances.

As a child I was always passioned about drawing, particularly human face and their eyes.
Here in the UK I met a wonderful Slovakian portrait artist who saw my drawings and explained to me the mere basics of portraiture drawing, which absolutely lifted me of the ground and I suddenly felt that was all I was waiting for. After I trialed a few portraits for friends and family, I decided to apply for an art course at two Universities. Unfortunately, in both interviews, I was told my art was not good enough to enroll me. I was devastated and heartbroken. I hid all of my art material away. I had neither the confidence nor the desire to pursue a career as an artist as a result.

I picked up the pencil again when my first son was born to do a little sketch of him. I realised then how much I missed it. I was cross with myself that I had allowed someone else’s opinions to take away from me something that I love. I fell in love with drawing again.
