A very colourful and diverse contemporary exhibition which not only includes a variety of paintings but also sculpture, installation, collage, and drawing.  The group of 8 artists met on a Fine Art Degree course and produce both conventional and experimental pieces which give this exhibition an exciting range of artistic interest.

One artist, for example, creates little worlds in boxes, another makes large soft sculptures and yet another produces books.   All items, small or large, are original works and will be displayed among sketchbooks, cards and mounted work.

Delia Taylor-Brook

An Exhibition of Paintings and Ceramics, By Delia Taylor-Brook

In the Vesey Room at Bampton Library

'I have always been strongly connected to nature and the countryside and have a passion for gardening. My decorative flower bowls are inspired by my love of flowers and their individual characteristics, and my Heart of the Garden Sculptures have been inspired by the sense of peace being in nature. Working with the clay itself and getting my hands dirty feels both therapeutic and meditative, especially the stillness and presence required in hand-building my work.

Colour is also a strong element of my paintings and I like the intensity of colour that is possible from acrylics and watercolour combined with soft pastels. I also work with mixed media.

My exhibition at the Vesey Room reflects my sources of inspiration and my developing artistic style over the past couple of years.' Delia Taylor-Brook.

Chimney to India and Back 9th Apr - 1st May

Chimney to India and Back showcases the work of David and Marguerite Evers. David and Marguerite take their paints with them when they travel - oils, canvases, easels, chairs, the lot - and that is why a number of exotic locations are depicted in the work. The paintings in Goa are unusual for Indian art because the subjects tend to be local people, and peasant cottages rather than the grand buildings.

Seeing Differently 12Feb - 6th Mar

West Ox Arts has bought together the county’s best abstract artists to put on this large group exhibition. This exhibition is a visual feast that emphasizes moods and impressions, the showcase uses color and form in a non-representational way across a range of mediums including painting, photography, ceramics and glass work. It characterizes the use of bold colors, shapes and lines, rather than recognizable forms or a picture you can identify.

This exhibition builds history with Jenny Eadon’s paintings that are a metaphor of the complicated processes involved in thought and memory. Explore the effect of elapsing time with Jane Strother’s paintings which look at the ever changing effect of light and weather perceived in the colour of the landscape. Also included are simple hand built forms by Lucy Butterwick decorated with glaze and lustre, who’s pieces create a sense of stillness and contemplation with Echoes of ancient cultures and the natural world.

Other artists include paintings by Marion Hebblethwaite, photography by Kevin Wood portraying vibrant alien landscapes. Wendy Newhofer who creates expressive glass pieces, using metal to draw within the glass. Heather Gulliver who uses graphite, pastel and charcoal to show an abstract phase into her journey of seeing. Wendy A Wilson who’s work explores the play between order and chaos and George Taylor who’s large paintings are explorations of possibilities.

Come along to explore and discover that lines, forms and colors hold aesthetic values which may be arranged into beautiful compositions devoid of normal subject matter

Echoes of Stone 2 - 24 October

This exhibition is about the human encounter with the built environment. Emmie van Biervliet travels to diverse cultures around the world and records in her mixed-media paintings the colourful ambience of crumbling Cuban buildings or the sensory kaleidoscope of India. Helen Colling's mysterious multilayered images of shadowy figures standing in the streets of European cities. These printed textile collages explore the transitory nature of the human presence in the city.

Katherine Shock is inspired by the beauty of cities like Paris and Oxford; she captures the evocative qualities of light on mellow coloured stone, the narrow alleys and the magnificent set-pieces of architecture. Nicola Jenkin also paints the iconic buildings of Oxford and the surrounding area using oil, watercolour and mixed media. Mary Robinson’s photographs focus on abandoned interiors and the simultaneous sense of presence and absence in empty buildings.

Kerry von Zschock’s new range of hand painted pottery features architectural designs. Sculptor Emma Ablitt carves into stone to reveal figures that express the human feelings that we all share, such as attachment, protection and loss.

The Summer Exhibition 3 - 25 July

A mixed group exhibition of paintings, photography and ceramics celebrating the summer through gardens, flowers, landscapes and the sea. Neville Crowson’s oil paintings of flowers display his lively and enthusiastic enjoyment of colour in nature. Patsy Jones’s oils and mixed media focus on the underlying structure of the country and also qualities of space and light on the chalk downs. Photographer Gordon Stokes captures the changing effects of light and colour on landscape and the Scottish and Cornish coastline. His emphasis on seasonal changes as well as the textures and patterns in nature result in prints that are half-way to abstraction. Neil Ions will be showing his ceramic ‘Voyagers’ who are people on some sort of journey in a boat often accompanied by an animal. Fish and bird ocarinas by Neil are also in the exhibition. Robin Walden’s pots have been strongly influenced by early Chinese ware from the Song dynasty; they are also inspired by vessels from the Japanese tea ceremony and by contemporary Japanese ceramics.

Pat Elmore carves directly into stone and wood to reveal human and animal forms, as well as more abstract shapes. Barry Cottrell engraves into copper plate using a burin to produce his semi-figurative ‘poetry of the driven line.’ He is also showing lino and woodcuts, and a series of monoprints based on a meditative understanding of the natural world.
