David Cotton is an artist based in the West Midlands who mainly works with paintings and comes from a family with a long-standing passion for art. David’s grandfather had an immense talent for painting and wanted to enroll into an art school to explore this further and hone his skills, sadly he was not able to do so due to becoming the head of the family after losing his father in the Great War. However, his passion and talent for art were inherited by David’s father who along with his late wife and David’s maternal grandmother, an accomplished wildlife artist herself, noticed David’s talents when he was a teenager painting mural on his bedroom walls and the magnificent level of detail along with his imagination and natural ability to understand light and shade could not go unnoticed.

David considers making art an emotional craft and draws inspiration for his paintings directly from the surrounding environment and his experiences. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context.
With such an approach and the inherent visual seductiveness of his work, he seduces the viewer into a world of magical enchantment. His works are notable for their perfect finish and tactile nature, this is of great importance and bears witness to his great craftsmanship.

David’s experience of travelling around the world, living overseas and growing up with animals both as a child and an adult combined with his passion for the great outdoors has inspired his series of “The Disappearing World”. David’s work is created with oil on canvas and board.
