Bronwen Coussens
I am a ceramicist working from my studio in Henley on Thames. My enthusiasm for ceramics was sparked during childhood Saturday pottery classes. Having been reintroduced to clay some 15 years ago, I soon found my passion for hand building which includes coiling, pinching and slabbing (rather than throwing on a wheel). This method is slow and deliberate which allows me to really feel what I am making, developing each pot organically so that one pot is never the same as another. It is a very peaceful and therapeutic process which I hope is reflected in the pieces that I make.
Colour is very important to me and my inspiration comes from the environment that I often find myself in, whether it be the coastline - rock, sea, sand, pebbles or the woodland - moss, lichen, seed heads and wild plants. I make my pots essentially for their aesthetic appearance rather than for functional use. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it.
